MEET OUR INTERNS

The ROOTS AND ROUTES website stays aloft thanks to the support and hard work of its committed New York City interns. Many are students, honing their "real world" job skills while pursuing a variety of career paths, while others are freelancers on their way to becoming the next dot.com billionaires. Check our 1999 team!

Siu Sang Chan My name is Tracy Chan and I am an international student at Hunter College in New York. I came to New York from Hong Kong three years ago. I like New York City because it has many similarities to Hong Kong- both are highly urbanized, international cities which offer all the conveniences inside. I know many people from other countries and they show me new and different things all the time. I am currently in my last year as a geography major. I have been interested in the natural environment ever since I was a child, and this will probably never change. Because environment degradation is a serious problem these days, I hope to apply my knowledge in ways that can help protect the environment.

Joniclair S. Gabucan joniclair.jpg 240x217 My name is Joniclair S. Gabucan, and I have been interested in media since high school. I first attended video production classes, which encouraged me to try my hand in the film world. I began my film studies at Bard College in Annandale, NY, and then I attended New York University as a Mass Communications major. I have worked on the set of such productions as "The Adventures of Sebastian Cole" for Kulpan Productions and "Entourage" for Thin Man Productions. I am interested in independent, foreign, and classic motion pictures and hope to pursue a career in film production. My post graduation plans are to travel to the Philippines to shoot super-8 film of Filipino culture and to record stories from my family's history.

Maurice McFadden maurice.jpg 320x240 My name is Maurice McFadden and I am a junior at Hunter College in New York City. I am an Economics major and expect to graduate in December, 2001 and then work in the financial field. I was born and raised here in New York, primarily in Harlem. I graduated with honors from Manhattan Comprehensive High School and had the pleasure of attending Herkimer County Community College in upstate New York. While enrolled at Hunter I have had a variety of work experiences, from a mailroom position at Merrill Lynch to an internship at the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF). I also recently spent several months in Japan with my wife Kiyori Daito-McFadden, and her gracious family.

Jonathan Albertson
My name is Jonathan Albertson and I have been assisting with graphics and HTML editing for the ROOTS AND ROUTES website. My first internship in New York was in January 2000, with the documentary and commercial production company Maysles Films, Inc. Since then I have been working freelance on various commercials, documentaries and graphic design projects. I graduated in 1998 from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, where I earned a B.A. in film and media studies. I plan to continue in the field of film-related website production.
